Sheepskin is a natural product. Our helmets can sometimes have spots in the fur, grain marks and the leather can be naturally ribbed with lines. This is what makes each Irvin helmet unique!
This finish is colourfast under normal circumstances. However, certain solvents on hands or surfaces can slightly damage the dark brown finish in a way that the colour could run. These solvents include: Leather seat treatments, hand creams, perfumes, aftershave, airborne sprays containing solvent, petrol, oils, etc.
Our new Leather Works Wax Treatment will soften old leather, giving it a lasting suppleness. Apply sparingly and do not 'over-rub' the surface.
For your first treatment
Using a soft cloth apply a small amount of wax treatment (the wax is clean to use and practically odourless), apply sparingly to all surfaces of the 'leather' - but do not apply to the sections of fur or cloth (linings). Hang the treated item at a warm room temperature for a couple of hours. (Never use direct artificial heat or in direct sunlight.) Buff gently with a lint free cloth to gently remove excess (do not use a brush on the 'leather' area of sheepskin).
Subsequent treatment
Apply sparingly every 12-18 months. Store sheepskin items away from heat and sunlight. Make sure that the area is well ventilated. Do not store in plastic, an old cotton single duvet cover is ideal.
Caution
This product can be used on our sheepskin helmets, jackets and trousers, as well as our leather jackets, but please remember that sheepskin is not the same as leather and does have a 'surface' that will wear to a suede-like finish over time.
Leather Works Wax Treatment can help to preserve the 'leather-like' appearance for longer, but do not use on flaking, rubbed or cracked surfaces. If the surface has begun to crack please do not use, as any treatment now will encourage the surface to peel.
We recommend that you do not leave your jacket on hot surfaces or in the car during summer.
